People grow medicinal crops to prevent or treat human or animal diseases. Farmers typically cultivate them in tropical and subtropical regions. Farmers process the entire plant or its parts—flowers, roots, stems, leaves, and seeds—by drying, cutting, or powdering.
About Seeds
Isabgol seeds, also known as psyllium husk, come from the Plantago ovata plant and are indigenous to India and the Mediterranean. The word isabgol comes from the Persian words isap and ghol, which mean “horse ear”, describing the shape of the seed. The seed is also white, whitish, and has a similar size and shape to a flea, which is where the word “psyllium” comes from.
